News24xx.com - Recent studies have shown that younger Covid-19 patients have a risk of losing their sense of smell, compared to elderly coronavirus patients.

A group of researchers from Ireland examined 46 infected patients and they were asked to assess changes in the sense of smell (anosmia) and taste (ageusia).

As a result, about half of the participants experienced smell and taste dysfunction, which are known to be symptoms of infectious disease, in this case, Covid-19.

Strangely, the reverse results were obtained by Covid-19 patients with older age who claimed not to experience anosmia or age.

According to the researchers, it is possible that the loss of smell and taste in younger patients is a new symptom of Covid-19, beyond the general symptoms like coughing and fever.

Therefore, the researchers suggest that people who lose their sense of smell to isolate themselves because they are potentially infected with Covid-19.

Furthermore, the researchers argue that the loss of smell is caused by cells infiltrating viruses that provide primary structural support to sensory neurons.

While the average age of Covid-19 patients with olfactory disorders is 30.5 years. As for patients who do not experience these symptoms aged over 41 years.
