News24xx.com - Typically, toilets need to be connected to the drain and use water to clean it. But there is a toilet that does not need both, and the development of the toilet is funded by Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Tiger Toilet, like the name, this toilet uses tiger worms to process the human excrement in the toilet. The development of these toilets began in 2015, and is currently being used in 4,000 places such as homes and schools in India.

This worm-powered toilet looks like a toilet in general, but it doesn't smell. Though this toilet does not need to be watered and not connected to the drainage, as quoted from Business Insider, on Monday, January 14th 2019.

The processing of the human feces is carried out by tiger worms which are stored in a container under the toilet. They eat human waste, eliminate 99% of the existing pathogens, and what remains is a mixture of water, carbon dioxide, the worm’s drop which can be a compost.

The remaining water can be discharged directly to the ground and will be filtered automatically by the soil. So no additional processing facilities are needed. While the compost produced is suitable to be a fertilizer because it has contents such as nitrogen, phosphorus, carbon, and potassium. "Their natural habitat is in a pile of cow dung, horses. That's where they live" said Ajeet Oak, director of Tiger Toilet.

Now, to spread this worm-powered toilet to the market, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gives at least USD 4.8 million to the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The money will be used to improve the technology.
