News24xx.com - The new findings speculate that the new coronavirus, could have come from snakes, one of the wild animals sold on the Wuhan market.

This is because the researchers found that the protein code in the virus is similar to snakes. According to CNA, snakes often hunt bats in the wild. Bats are also suspected to be the reason snakes are infected with the virus.

Gao Fu, director-general of the China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that this new virus is almost 70% similar to the SARS virus, which originates from bats.

Therefore, scientists speculate that bats can also be a source of new coronaviruses that can be transmitted from animals to humans. This is of course just speculation because many scientists have different theories about how coronaviruses emerged.

Although it is uncertain how the virus has spread between humans and bats, they believe that "there may be unknown intermediaries".

This is where bat soup comes into play because Chinese delicacy in Wuhan province is consumed by many residents.

In 2003, bats were confirmed to be the source of the SARS virus. The Chinese government urges residents to stop eating bats and wild animals, but it seems that practice is still ongoing today.

It was also reported that each time a seller traveled to a remote area to catch bats, they would catch at least 500 bats.

Some rich people have even bought 2,000 bats to eat, which highlights how easily the coronavirus spreads among humans.

To date, China has confirmed 571 cases of the virus and 17 deaths.
