And deaths that caused by diphtheria, a serious bacterial infection are likely to increase in Yemen if a blockade imposed by a Saudi-led military coalition is not lifted

Since August 2017, the aid organization has said that they recorded at least 52 deaths because the disease, most of them are children under 15 yo. A total of 716 others were infected during the same time period.

"There is little help to detect this disease, when families bring their children hundreds of miles to get to us, but they are late to arriving and infecting people on the street," said Mariam Aldogani, a field coordinator of the group in the port city of Hudaida.

According to Save the Children, the epidemic has struck the western province of Ibb and Hudaida. Despite the severe food and fuel shortages, the Yemeni population is facing an ongoing cholera epidemic, and described that disease as the world's worst, and an acute outbreak of diarrhea.
