BI suggests to use chip system for ATM cards, debit cards, and credit cards

The rise of ATM burglary, BI suggest using chips for easy monitoring

The recent incident could make customers worries. In addition the banks are exhausting  looking for ways to overcome them. Therefore, Bank Indonesia (BI) advises banks to issue  ATM cards (Anjungan Mandiri Tunai) or debit using chips.

Previously, the police had succeeded to arresting  4 foreigners ATM burglary by skimming or copying data from bank accounts. This skimming mode by utilizing data which recorded on ATM that still use magnetic stripe.

Deputy Director Payment System Supervision of Bank Indonesia (BI) Eva Aderia said, one of way is to change the data system in the ATM card from magnetic stripe to chip to avoid ATM burgalry.

"We suggest banks through the provisions that we issued to improve security both in the use of transactions using credit card, ATM card or debit card," said Eva at Jakarta Police Station, Saturday, March 17th 2018.

 "So later people can see that now on the card we have been through banks has issued an ATM card or debit using a chip," she said.

The burglars will be difficult to do their actions if it has been installed this chip technology. And BI is also easy to monitoring bank security system in Indonesia.

Furthermore, Eva added that for all banks to install sophisticated small CCTV attached throughout the existing ATM. People also have to get used to close the PIN key space when they want to transact.
