After being searched for days, Bonita, a tiger who had killed two civilians, was found

News24xx.com - A tiger called Bonita, who had became “wanted” for the team of BBKSDA Riau (Great Hall of Riau Natural Resources Conservation) and the civilians of Danau Hamlet, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau, was finally found. A Canadian woman named Shakti Wolvers Teeg found its hideout after staying in the location for almost two weeks to help capturing the tiger who had killed two civilians.

Although BBKSDA claimed that it was an improvement, thanks to Shakti, Bonita has not been captured yet. Before, the search for Bonita has taken more than 100 days or more than 3 months.

According to the Head of Division I Mulyo Hutomo, Shakti led the team into a palm oil plantation, The team then investigated the plantation area and could only found pawprints of the tiger.

“Before this, Bonita was in the forest, Shakti let it back to the plantation area” Sutomo said, Tuesday, April 17th 2018.

Hutomo explained that Shakti found Bonita in the wood. The 22 year old woman then tried to lure Bonita to come out of its hiding.

“Shakti said that Bonita was in this block, then the team investigated. It was true but we could only find the pawprints” Hutomo said.

According to Hutomo, ever since Bonita was shot with anesthetic bullet on March, it was never seen again around the civilians settlement. Its movement changed from going to the plantations to going inside the forest.

Recently, Bonita stayed inside the forest area called greenbelt. Here was where Shakti tried to lure it out of its hiding to be captured.

“The maximum result in which Bonita is captured is still not achieved, the team is still trying with every possible ways” Hutomo said.

After more than 100 days of searching, Hutomo said that there was no change in the team, no decrease in members or posts made by the joint team. The teams take turns in patroling regularly, though they stopped the search at night due to lack of lighting, though it is the time where Bonita is the most active“ Bonita has to be captured due to the change on its behaviour” Hutomo said.

The change is that Bonita is no longer afraid of coming close to humans. It only ran away whenever the joint team came, as if known that it would be captured. However, Bonita is not afraid of humans who are not part of the search team, at all. It will stalk the farmers at the plantation and frighten them.

Bonita’s behaviour is considered by BBKSDA as very dangerous, especially after two civilians became its victims. The first attack happened in early January 2018, with a worker of palm oil plantation, Jumiati as its victim. Two months later, Bonita attacked another victim named Yusri. The construction worker was stalked by the tiger during his work and was attacked on his way home at night.

Rumors said that there is something mystical and otherworldly about this beast. For one thing, Bonita cannot be shot although the distance between it and the gunner was only 3 meters. The same thing happened with the anesthetic bullet that was shot at it. The bullet only flied 4 meters away.
